What happens at an initial consultation and assessment appointment?
Children: At the initial appointment, I will be getting to know you and your child by taking a case history, and finding out what you are hoping to achieve with speech and language therapy. If your child is very young or non-verbal, I will be observing how they interact with you, how they play, and thereby carrying out informal assessment of your child's communication skills. For older, speaking children, I will carry out more formal (paper-based) assessments along with the informal observations, to gain an understanding of their communication needs. Depending on which option you choose, I will either feedback my assessment results verbally or with a written report.
Adults: At your initial appointment, I will talk through your case history to find out about what has brought you to speech and language therapy, and then carry out appropriate assessment activities with you to determine where your communication difficulties lie. I will talk to you about what you want to do day-to-day, so that we can tailor goals and therapy to suit your activities and interests.
What is your approach to speech and language therapy?
I’m very much a ‘Total Communication’ therapist, that is I encourage and value all forms of communication, whether that be through speech, gesture/signing, writing or symbols – the important thing is that you are HEARD!!
Where are you based?
I’m based in Capel St Mary, in Suffolk, just off the A12.
Can I bring my child to you?
Absolutely! From the 12th May, 2025, I will have my clinic room up and running.
How much does therapy cost?
Please see my 'Services' webpage for pricing details.
How do I pay for speech and language therapy?
I ask for payment for initial assessments 48 hours before the appointment, I will send you an invoice with my bank details for a bank transfer.
Thereafter, I will invoice within 24 hours after a session, and ask for payment by bank transfer within 5 days.
Do you charge for mileage for home visits?
Yes, I charge 55p per mile for anything over 10 miles away from Capel St Mary, so if you live 15 miles away, I will charge 5 x 55p on top of the session fee.
Do I have to have a diagnosis of ADHD to have coaching?
No! If you identify as having the difficulties common to ADHDers, then you will benefit from coaching.
