About me

Hello,

My name is Wendy Austin, and I’m an independent Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT), working with adults and children in the Ipswich and Colchester areas, and online nationally. I graduated from the University of Essex with a Masters degree in Speech and Language Therapy, and have been working with a wide variety of client groups since then; including preschool children, pupils in mainstream schools and within a specialist school for autism.   Most recently, I have worked within the NHS with adults who have an acquired speech and language difficulty due to stroke or brain injury.

I’m empathetic and kind and enjoy building rapport with my clients; creating a safe, supportive, and professional relationship in which you can relax, and work with me on your communication goals.

I am particularly passionate about providing evidence-based and person-centred therapy, and supporting adults with acquired communication difficulties; for example after stroke.  I work with you and your family to develop personalised goals and strategies that work for you, supporting you to communicate more effectively and thereby increase your confidence in social situations.

I also work with children with language delay, speech sound difficulties and social communication difficulties (autism). I enjoy making therapy sessions fun for children, using their own interests to guide my input.  I am Makaton trained at levels 1-4, and have completed ELKLAN training in supporting pupils with severe learning difficulties.

I can provide therapy in your home, care/nursing home, school or nursery; or through online therapy sessions. My new clinic room in Capel St Mary will be opening in May 2025, meaning you have the option to bring your child to me for therapy sessions!

I also provide online ADHD Coaching for teens and adults in the evenings, making it easier to fit around your work or school day.  Having ADHD myself, I know how difficult it can be to keep up with work, and how exhausting it is to mask those executive functioning difficulties.  ADHD coaching is different to neurotypical coaching - I don't expect you to bring the agenda, I use ADHD Works Executive Functioning Framework (in which I have been trained) to work through the areas in which you may have difficulties, and to make the most of your unique and wonderful strengths!
